Our Programmed Society

According to Vartan Gregorian, president of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, "We have become too complacent about the far-reaching effects of technology on our lives."  He goes on to say, "In other words, science may have given us the computer, the iPod, and the satellite dish, but we should not forget that it has also given us the tools to move beyond the mundane, to go from the particular to the universal, to peer into the heavens or to examine the most infinitesimally tiny particles — not just to find out what's going on there, but also to wonder about the meaning of what's going on."
