Announcing a New Guide for Aligning Secondary and Postsecondary Curriculum

On behalf of the League for Innovation in the Community College, Gerardo E. de los Santos, League President and CEO, and Laurance J. Warford, League Principal Investigator, Significant Discussions Project, and Senior Workforce Consultant, are pleased to announce the availability of a new resource they believe will have a great impact on community college student success and completion. Significant Discussions: A Guide to Secondary and Postsecondary Curriculum Alignment provides a set of viable, step-by-step strategies, tools, and tips for aligning curriculum across systems of education. Created to encourage and facilitate collaborative work to improve student success, Significant Discussions was developed, with generous support from MetLife Foundation, by more than 150 community college and secondary school faculty and administrators and their business, industry, and community partners.

In crafting Significant Discussions, the team was guided by findings from earlier projects that curriculum alignment can ease and hasten transitions from high school to community college. By eliminating the need for remediation, such alignment can help improve student retention, success, and completion. Increased retention can also help improve the college's bottom line, an important consideration at any time, but especially when budgets are declining and enrollment is increasing.

To facilitate its use, Significant Discussions may be downloaded at https://www.league.org/league/projects/Significant_Discussions/index.cfm at no cost. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact Laurance J. Warford at <mailto:warford@league.org>.
