Campus-wide Volunteers Make Alumni Week and Homecoming a Success

The MCC Foundation thanks the members of the Alumni Week and Homecoming 2010 Planning Committee for their outstanding effort to reconnect alumni, students and friends to MCC.  Over 1,500 people participated in 13 events from September 24 to October 1.

The week began with an MCC Spirit Day Pep Rally and Faculty vs. Students Basketball Game.  Faculty, staff and students wearing black and gold cheered on their favorite team from the sidelines.   Alumni employees stayed after the game to pose for a group photo.  In the evening, a banquet was held on campus honoring Tanesha James, Erik Pritchard, Urska Ros and William Setek as they were inducted into the MCC Sports Hall of Fame.

Homecoming Saturday was filled with fun events, starting with the 5K Walk/Run for Scholarships, MCC Tribunes games, tailgate party and ending with AND1 versus MCC Alumni Basketball game.  Special congratulations go out to our 5K top finishers:  men’s - Jared Green (student); women’s - Zoe Kensington (student); and alum - Peter Brunett.  A drawing for two $250 scholarships was held during the Tailgate Party.  Winners were MCC students Shaquita Smith and Zoe Kensington.

During the week, students living in the residence halls enjoyed an ice cream social.  Alumni donors joined President Kress for a luncheon in Reflections.  Alumni from the Classes of the ’60s took a cruise on the Erie Canal aboard the Sam Patch.  The Fall Festival featured Magician Peter Boie who entertained students with his magic for non-believers.  Betty Stewart and Jodi Oriel hosted a well-attended Alumni Student Leader Reception at Pier 45.  Student government leaders, peer mentors and Phi Theta Kappa officers had the opportunity to visit with old friends and to share their experiences since graduation.

The week closed with two alumni events.  First, was the “Putts for My Pups” Alumni Golf Outing hosted by Professor Tom Proietti at Lake Shore Country Club.  This was the second year proceeds from the tournament supported the Thomas P. Proietti Scholarship Fund.  Tom recently selected four scholarship recipients who were invited to attend the luncheon following the tournament.  (Look for more information on these students in an upcoming issue of the MCC Daily Tribune!)  And second, alumni took advantage of an exceptional opportunity to learn cooking and wine pairing techniques from Dave Boni (Transitional Studies) and Michelle Bartell (Hospitality) and Gerry Brinkman (Hospitality).
