REMINDER: You, Me and the New Reality of Tobacco Free!


On September 1, 2014, MCC will become a tobacco-free campus. Approved by the MCC Board of Trustees late last year, this new policy means that tobacco use will not permitted anywhere on campus.

So what does that mean for you?

Whether you’re a smoker or a non-smoker, you need to know how to work within the new rules. You need to understand how to help promote a healthy environment – how to make the policy work. Come and join in the discussion of compliance when Ty Patterson, tobacco-free expert from the National Center for Tobacco Policy, visits MCC to share his extensive expertise.

Ty Patterson led the tobacco policy initiative at Ozarks Technical Community College to its implementation in 2003. In addition to his duties as Vice President of Student Affairs, he directed the Center of Excellence for Tobacco-Free Campus Policy beginning in 2004. In 2008 Patterson retired after 37 years in student affairs but continued to lead the Center of Excellence for Tobacco-Free Campus Policy as part time Director until the establishment of the National Center for Tobacco Policy in December 2010 when he joined the NCTP as the Executive Director. He is currently helping SUNY implement its tobacco-free. initiative.
