Celebrate Ireland and St. Patrick’s Day with Celtic Society

In honor the St. Patrick’s Day, MCC’s Celtic Society invites you to attend three free events that celebrate the Celtic nation of Ireland.

Today at noon on the fourth floor of the Brighton Campus Library (outside room 2-452), Celtic Society advisor Jeff Jones will be speaking about Irish writer W.B. Yeats’ use of Irish mythology in his poems and plays.

Then on Wednesday, 13 March, at 6 p.m. in 12-129, Celtic Society will host a screening of FAR AND AWAY as part of its ongoing Celtic movie night program. Featuring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, FAR AND AWAY tells the story of Irish emigrants fleeing the restrictive class and land ownership systems of nineteenth-century Ireland and attempting to make a new life in the United States.

Finally, on Saturday, 16 March, MCC will again march in Rochester’s St. Patrick's Day Parade. Come cheer on the 78 marchers from 10 different clubs and organizations: Celtic Society, The Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project, Veterans Club, Student Music Association, Student Government Association, Student Event and Governance Association, Pool and Billiards, Hospitality Club, Phi Theta Kappa, and the Women's Volleyball Team. The parade starts at 12:30 and continues until about 3 pm.

All of the events are free and open to the public.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

Celtic Society’s purpose is to raise awareness of the Celtic Nations (Brittany, Cornwall, Galicia, Ireland, Isle of Man, Scotland, Wales) and diaspora. It aims to share and celebrate Celtic culture with the college community. Celtic Society welcomes all students, faculty, and employees, regardless of their ethnic backgrounds.
