Massage Therapy Students Achieve High Pass Rate on State Boards

The first class to graduate from Monroe Community College’s Massage Therapy program achieved a 93.3 percent pass rate on the New York State Massage Therapy Examination. Results of the examination were announced in October 2003.

“We are very pleased with the success our massage therapy students have achieved through this new program,” said Janet Glocker, vice president, Academic Services. “The dedication and vision of Instructor Deneen Rhode, Health and Physical Education, who worked to launch the program in 2001 and open MCC’s Massage Therapy Clinic last spring, obviously had a positive impact on our students. The community’s patronage of the clinic enhanced the students’ chances for success by providing real-life experiences in a professional setting,” she said.

In addition to demonstrating completion of a registered massage therapy program, passing the exam is required in order for a therapist to be licensed to practice in the state.  The exam is offered in January and August each year by the New York state Education Department’s Division of Professional Licensing Services.
