Passing of the Honorable Edward B. Davis, father-in-law of Anne M. Kress


We regret to inform you of the passing of the Honorable Edward B. Davis, father-in-law of MCC President Anne M. Kress. Judge Davis passed away in Miami on Monday at the age of 77.

Mr. Davis served a long tenure as a corporate attorney before being appointed to the federal bench in 1979 by President Jimmy Carter.
Later, he became Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. When he left the court in 2000, he was Chief Judge. Following his retirement from the bench, he joined the Akerman law firm where he focused on mediations and arbitrations. A gifted athlete, after high school Mr. Davis signed with the Detroit Tigers to play professional baseball. His baseball career was cut short in less than two years due to old football injuries.

Additionally, Mr. Davis was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Friends and colleagues are holding a celebration and memorial for him Thursday evening in Florida. A private memorial will be held later in the summer. Memories of Judge Davis are being shared at <<

Judge Davis is survived by his wife of of 52 years, Pat; three children, Diana and husband Ian, Ned and wife Anne, and Traci; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
