Liberal Arts Mentor Program Recognized

The Liberal Arts Mentor Program at MCC recently was selected for a 2005 Outstanding Institutional Advising Certificate of Merit from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).  The award recognizes the Counseling and Advising Center program for its innovation and exemplary practices that have resulted in improved academic advising service.  The program connects faculty advisors with students for a long-term mentoring relationship, giving faculty the opportunity to interact more indepth with students from their discipline and to assist those students in long-range career planning, as well as class selection each semester.  The program's directors - Kelley Bennett, advisor, Counseling and Advising Center (Irondequoit), and Kathleen O'Shea, professor, English/Philosophy (Marion) - will receive the award during the annual NACADA conference in October.  NACADA is an association of professional advisors, faculty, administrators and students working to enhance the educational development of students.
