New Name for WEP Program

Monroe County Department of Human Services (DHS) has made significant changes to regulations that affect some students receiving benefits.  One of the changes that most impacts our students is the ability to now count one hour of unsupervised study time for each enrolled credit hour towards their work activity requirement.  In other words, students enrolled for 15 credit hours can now count 30 hours towards their work activity requirement.  Since many students are required approximately 30 hours of work activity, this means a significant reduction in the number of students required to participate in the Work Experience Program (WEP) this semester, or for some it means a decrease in the number of hours required.  Please note however that this regulation change does not apply to all students in the program. Students have all been notified as to how the changes impact their individual case.

Fortunately, students on DHS impacted by the changes will continue to receive support from our program. We will continue to monitor and report attendance for students though the Vocational Education portion of our program.  Accordingly, we have changed our name to the Vocational Education and Work Experience Program (V-WEP).

If you have served as a site supervisor in the past and are interested in continuing to do so, please keep in mind students will be available for fewer hours than in prior semesters.  For any questions or to discuss your departments’ needs, please contact Beatriz LeBron at <

We thank you again for your continued support!
