ALSI Receives Pegasus and Telly Awards for Excellence


“Locally Grown,” a 25-minute documentary produced by MCC’s Agriculture and Life Sciences Institute (ALSI) was chosen as a Best of Show Finalist for the Pegasus 2011 Award of Excellence. The Pegasus Awards have been the symbol of excellence for exceptional work produced by media professionals for over 10 years.

The Telly Awards has also named ALSI as a Bronze winner in the 33rd Annual Telly Awards for “Locally Grown.” With nearly 11,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries, and a judging panel of over 500 industry professionals this is truly an honor. The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films. Telly Award winners include: Turner Studios, FOX SPORTS, Nickelodeon, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Bass Pros Shops Film & Video Productions, Lockheed Martin, AEG Network, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, Outdoor Channel, and Time Warner Cable.

To help get the word out about the vital part that farms are to our local economy and quality of life the “Locally Grown,” documentary was created. It looks at all aspects of agriculture in Monroe County from the economy, to the community, to the importance of buying local, to even the growing business of agritainment. The program’s writer and narrator, Bob King, Ph.D. is the director of ALSI. The video was directed by John Frontuto with videography and editing by Daren Hammond, both are staff members at the Public Safety Training Facility.
