Whittingham's book is published

Liz Whittingham is an adjunct in the English/Philosophy Department.  After eight years of research, writing, and revision, her book has finally rolled off the presses!

Whittingham, Elizabeth A. The Evolution of Tolkien’s Mythology: A Study of the History of Middle-earth. Critical Explorations in Science Fiction and Fantasy, 7. Jefferson, NC: McFarland, 2008. This work examines the major influences on J. R. R. Tolkien’s History of Middle-earth, a detailed twelve-volume series that follows the evolution of his literary world, stories, and characters from 1914 until the author’s death in 1973.  Reviewing some of the myths with which Tolkien was most familiar—Greek, Roman, Finnish, and Norse—this study reveals the relationships among mythology, biblical stories, and Tolkien’s popular works.

Congratulations Liz!
