Women's Soccer Loses in National Final

MCC women's soccer team had another great year. The team finished up 18-3 and were the NJCAA National Runners-Up. The Tribunes entered the tournament ranked 3rd and had a difficult road to the finals. In the first round they defeated William Rainey Harper from Illinois 5-0. The semifinal round was against Dixie State, the team that MCC beat to win the title in 2001. This game was very evenly matched. By the end of regulation, the score was tied 1-1. The game ended up going into sudden death overtime and then penalty kicks. The Lady Tribunes won in the second round of penalty kicks. Freshman, Chelsea Hibbard (Wilson, NY) scored the game winning goal. For the fourth year in a row, MCC advanced to the national finals to play the Community College of Rhode Island -- the rival that had handed MCC their second loss of the season earlier in the year. The game was played on Sunday, so both teams had a day off to rest. MCC dominated most of the game, outshooting their opponent 20-6. However, the Knights defeated MCC, the defending champion, 3-2, for the National Junior College Division I championship. Three players were named to the all tournament team: Kelly Bailie, Kristina Cristofori, and Shana Thomas.
