New Certificate Program Garners Media Attention

Career and Technical Education Dean Dr. Javier Ayala and Hospitality Management Chair Michelle Bartell and Adjunct Assistant Professor Mark Regan each were interviewed by the local news media about MCC's new golf management certificate program on Wednesday, July 31.

WHAM 1180 radio, WXXI AM 1370 and 13WHAM News (Channel 13) promoted the program, asking why there is a need for golf management training, what the curriculum entails and what job opportunities are available in the region. The news reports aired July 31 and Aug. 1. WXXI's report was scheduled to air this morning (Aug. 5). Articles also appeared in Messenger Post papers and on Channel 10's (WHEC-TV) website.

MCC developed the certificate program — the only one of its kind in the Western New York region —to prepare students for immediate employment in any area of the golf business, ranging from course maintenance and equipment repair to golf shop operations and human resource management. The curriculum also covers golf operations, rules and tournament play, club fitting and teaching skills as well as key components of starting and managing a small business.

The certificate program, which was recently approved by the MCC Board of Trustees, is awaiting approval by the State University of New York and the New York State Department of Education.
