Congratulations!  Jasna Bogdanavska awarded SUNY Chancellor's Grant for Innovative Study Abroad!

The Global Education and International Services office is excited to announce that Jasna Bogdanovska, Assistant Professor in the Visual and Performing Arts Department, has received a Chancellor’s Grant for Innovative Study Abroad Programs (ISAP Grant) for the 2015-2016 academic year. Professor Bogdanovska’s On Location Course, “Photographic Explorations of Culture, Landscape and Myth in Iceland,” was one of four outstanding proposals selected to receive the award from among a SUNY-wide pool of 19 applications.

The Chancellor’s Grant for Innovative Study Abroad Programs is a competitive grant providing financial support to unique study abroad programs and opportunities to increase student mobility overseas. The ISAP Grant will provide funding of $4,000 to support the program and to make the cost more affordable to students.   Jasna  worked with the director of MCC’s Global Education and International Services office to secure the grant, saying, “Gale approached me about submitting the grant because she knew I was thinking of creating the course to bring students to Iceland. Throughout the extensive process of researching, writing and applying for the grant, Gale was very helpful in answering questions and giving advice. Knowing that there is a team of people at the GEIS office that actively look for global opportunities for faculty and also give support, makes a huge difference for faculty to apply and get grants that are available on state or national levels.”

SUNY ASSISTANT VICE CHANCELLOR FOR GLOBAL AFFAIRS, Sally Crimmins Villela, wrote in her letter, “As you know, ‘SUNY and the World’ is among the Six Big ideas that comprise the strategic plan, the Power of SUNY, launched by Chancellor Zimpher. The enhancement of the international dimension of the university and of our students’ education is among our priorities. I would like to thank you for the support you have provided on your campus for international education and for the development of innovative projects such as that of Professor Bogdanovska.  Once again, congratulations to Professor Bogdanovska and to the State University College at Monroe Community College on the receipt of this prestigious grant and for contributing to the increased globalization of SUNY.”
