16th Annual MCC High School Precision Machining Competition

On Friday, May 3rd,  21 high school students from six different Career and Technical Centers competed in the 16th Annual MCC Precision Machining Competition.  Three different competitions take place simultaneously.  The main Senior competition pits the best two machinists from each center in their abilities to make parts to precise specifications on mills and lathes.  The second is for one junior from each center to compete against the other juniors also making precise parts on the mills and lathes.  Lastly, three teams tested their skills in the CNC, Computer Numerical Control, competition.  Here they created a part on the computer using CAD/CAM and then have the part produced on a CNC mill by one of MCC’s precision machining students.  The competitors receive t-shirts and tools for competing which are paid for by donations from 27 different Advanced Manufacturing companies.  The winners receive a toolkit, plaque, and the winner of the Senior competition wins one semester free tuition from the RTMA.

Thanks to the efforts of the Tooling and Machining faculty and staff, this has become the premier machining competition of its kind in New York State.
