Business, Communication Leaders Join Foundation Board


Daniel J. Burns, Bernice Hatch, Matt Kreiner and Jean Nagel recently joined the Monroe Community College Foundation Board of Directors. Each will serve a three-year term supporting the foundation’s mission in the Greater Rochester community. 

Burns serves as president Rochester region, M&T Bank, one of the country’s most highly regarded regional banks with over 650 branches. Burns joined M&T Bank in 1987 and oversees M&T’s business and community activities in the Rochester region. He serves on numerous boards including those leading the Center for Governmental Research, Greater Rochester Enterprise, Easter Seals and the United Way. Burns is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University.

Hatch, an MCC alumna and community volunteer, will continue the legacy her husband, Gilbert J. Hatch, established as chair of the MCC Foundation’s Building on Success capital campaign. A Buffalo native, Bernice Hatch attended Monroe Community College after moving to Rochester with her late husband, a senior executive with Xerox. Hatch actively supports MCC Foundation activities, including the most recent Gold Star to the MAX Gala.

Kreiner most recently served as vice president and general manager, WUHF-TV, FOX Rochester, a member of the Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. He currently serves on the Project Exile Advisory Board, Board of Trustees for the Commission Project and the Greater Rochester Transportation Foundation. Kreiner and his wife, Marlene, were co-chairs of the foundation’s first Gold Star Gala. He is a graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisc.

Nagel is president, Nagel & Summers, Inc., a Rochester-based marketing communications agency. She has been involved with MCC Foundation activities for many years, primarily as the production manager for the annual Salute to Excellence dinner. Working with her agency, Nagel has supported the MCC Foundation’s Gold Star Gala since its inception. Nagel is a graduate of Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.

The MCC Foundation was established in 1983 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and secures private support on behalf of the college. Its members comprise corporate and civic leaders as well as MCC alumni. The foundation’s mission is to seek and secure private funding for scholarship assistance, faculty enrichment programs, educational equipment and seed money for innovative programs at Monroe Community College.  In 2004-2005, the MCC Foundation provided over $1.3 million in scholarship and program support to MCC students and faculty.
