Former MCC star Urckfitz excelling in Astros system

Former MCC pitcher Patrick Urckfitz is certainly opening some eyes as he plays in his second season with the Houston Astros organization.

The 6-4, 190-pound left-handed pitcher from Penfield, NY plays for the Class A Lexington Legends of the South Atlantic League.  He was named the team's May Pitcher of the Month by Houston's Player Development Department.

In 10 games in May, Urckfitz went 1-0 with four saves and a 0.71 ERA.  He tossed 12 2/3 innings, striking out 13 while walking just one and holding opponents to a .178 batting average.

For the season, Urckfitz is 3-0 with 10 saves and a 2.83 ERA.  In 35 innings he has struck out 33 and walked just six.
Urckfitz helped lead MCC to NJCAA World Series appearances in 2007 and 2008.  He was named to the national all-tournament team in 2008 as the Tribunes finished third in the nation.
