Auditing is always a hassle, both at the beginning of the semester and then again at the end when it is time for grading. The auditing rule is: Students have until the end of the first week of classes to sign up to audit a course. There is an Intent to Audit form that must be filled out and signed by the professor. Consequently, you should KNOW who is auditing your course because the student should have asked you to sign the form.
For obvious reasons, students cannot wait until after they fail your course to tell you they are auditing. Likewise, when they do well in your course they can’t change from an audit to a credit.
If a student tells you he is auditing your course and you haven’t signed a form, then he is not auditing and should be directed to the Registrar’s Office. If he tells you this after he fails his first test, you might want to suggest he either ratchet up his work ethic or withdraw because he is NOT auditing and it’s too late to change.
The Intent to Audit forms are due on Monday, September 13. After the first week of classes it is too late to change from audit to credit or from credit to audit.
