Rochester AmeriCorps Members to be Recognized

Rochester AmeriCorps members and members of other local national service programs will be recognized as part of Mayor and County Recognition Day for National Service. Members will gather today in City Council chambers and be acknowledged with a joint proclamation from The City of Rochester and Monroe County and with remarks from County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo and Department of Recreation and Youth Services Commissioner Marisol Ramos-Lopez.

Our local event is one of thousands taking place on this day to thank serving AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members for their contribution to address pressing needs in communities across the US. Every year over 75,000 members service in AmeriCorps programs at over 15,000 sites. Locally there are eleven national service programs with over 1000 individuals serving either full or part time.

Rochester AmeriCorps hosts 46 members who serve full time for 49 weeks in Rochester City Schools and programs that partner with the RCSD to support the educational engagement of students as well as students’ access to a college degree.

Rochester AmeriCorps is currently recruiting members for the 2016-2017 term of service which begins on September 12, 2016 and runs through August 20, 2017.
