Women’s soccer, volleyball off to nationals

The MCC women’s soccer and volleyball teams will be representing the college at national tournaments this weekend as the Tribune athletic program looks to continue its enormous success.

The women’s soccer team will be gunning for its third straight national title and ninth overall.  The Tribunes are 17-0-2 on the year and are the top seed at the NJCAA Division I tournament, which will be played Thursday through Sunday at Darton College in Albany, Ga.

MCC opens up with Navarro College at 12 p.m. on Thursday.  The Tribunes tied Navarro 0-0 on John L. DiMarco Field back in September.  The semifinals are Friday with the title game being played at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The volleyball team is making its first appearance at the NJCAA Division III national tournament, held Friday and Saturday in Rochester, Minn.  The Tribunes are 21-16 on the year and will take part in pool play on Friday.  Also in MCC's pool are Brookhaven College, Ridgewater College, and Catawba Valley Community College.

The top two teams from each pool will advance to the semifinals on Saturday.  Those will be followed by the consolation match and the championship match.

Be sure to check the MCC athletics website at <<https://www.monroecc.edu/go/sports"www.monroecc.edu/go/sports>> for updates on both teams.
