Avalone Participates at 7th Annual Campus Sustainability Conference

Valarie Avalone, director of planning, represented Monroe Community College at the 7th Annual Campus Sustainability Conference held at RIT on January 29, sponsored by SWBR Architects, M/E Engineering, and LeChase Construction. Valarie, along with RIT’s senior sustainability advisor to the president and Cornell University’s director of energy management, participated in a panel discussion on how each of their campuses works as a “living laboratory,” a new academic paradigm that enhances education through collaboration, innovation and partnerships. As signatories of the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, these three institutions share a common goal of carbon neutrality, yet each faces distinct challenges and seeks unique solutions through avenues such as food service, facilities, recycling, energy and transportation.

Valarie is the chair of the MCC’s Sustainability Committee.
