I CONFESS, I CONFESS! Deborah Benjamin is NOT writing this article. I knew you would read this article if you thought it was filled with Deborah’s words of wisdom.
It isn’t. But PLEASE read it anyway. I did not have the heart to ask Deb to write a Trib article about class rosters because she is busily making room changes for the spring term. Room changes coming in two days before the start of a semester make her crabby, so I am keeping my distance. (I like to pick my fights!) So, I’m writing the article on class rosters. I’ll try to keep it short.
I have heard many rumors complaining about class rosters recently and I want to clear them up for you:
Rumor 1:
I don’t have a class roster for spring yet!
Paper class rosters are late due to formatting problems. We hope to resolve the problem and hand deliver rosters on Friday. However, accurate class rosters are available in Banner self service. Class lists are available to you as soon as your name is assigned to teach the course. Check them out any time.
Rumor 2:
My paper class roster is wrong. It doesn’t list everyone currently enrolled in my course. I need to know who is registered!
Faculty requested a paper roster be mailed, so we developed one and mail it to you every five weeks. The roster is correct when we print it. Obviously, paper rosters are out of date very quickly. Please use Banner self service for an accurate list of students registered in your course. Accurate class rosters are at your fingertips.
Rumor 3:
Paper rosters include registered students and wait listed students. I can’t get a roster that separates the two different groups of students.
Faculty requested a paper roster include students on the wait list. We developed it and mail it to you. However, Banner self service offers a variety of class rosters that meet almost every need, including a separation of registered students and wait listed students:
· Detailed list of registered students
· Summary list of registered students
· Detailed list of wait listed students
· Summary list of wait listed students
I hope this information helps you successfully navigate the world of class rosters this term. I know that all of the R&R staff (and the printing team in ETS) dream of a day when paper rosters are gone forever and we all use Banner self service rosters.
