Clarke Presents at Annual Scholars' Conference

Professor Charles Clarke (Psychology) represented MCC at the 44th Annual Scholars’ Conference on the Holocaust and the Churches (ASC) on March 8-11 at the Sigi Ziering Institute at American Jewish University in Los Angeles, California.

On March 10, Clarke presented “Mortality Salience and Spiritual Transformation without Religious Engagement: A Secular Midrash with the Diary and Letters of Etty Hillesum” during a session focused on literary remembrance. Clarke also presented “Reflections on Identity, Trauma, and Loss of Culture and Space” during a plenary session he also chaired. Sessions included presentations from scholars from across the U.S. and around the world.

Clarke is MCC’s Endowed Chair of Holocaust Genocide Studies and director of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project. He also serves as a member of the ASC’s American Committee. In May 2012, MCC was only the second community college to host the Annual Scholars’ Conference.
