Sue Smith Recognized for Her Work with Cystic Fibrosis

Sue Smith will be recognized this weekend for her volunteer work at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Gala on November 1, 2008.  Sue has served as a member of the Cystic Fibrosis Family Connection (CFFC) since 1991 and is currently Vice President of this organization.  CFFC will receive the Mary Jane Taylor Distinguished Contributor Award as a community leader in the fight against Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a chronic disease that results in repeated extended hospital stays for those afflicted with the disease.  The Cystic Fibrosis Family Connection sponsors family education opportunities, including a modest lending library of materials on CF and chronic illness.  They support patients and their families during hospital admissions to Golisano Children’s Hospital (pediatric patients) and Highland Hospital (adult patients) in a number of ways.  They pay for the patient phone and TV charges for the duration of the admission; provide a number of parking passes for families to use during the stay; maintain a toy closet at GCH and give each child admitted a small toy, book or game; and offer a computer laptop rental program where the cost of the rental is covered for one admission per patient per year.  CFCC also provides small grants to families in financial need due to the high costs of CF related medications and therapies.  The organization is funded through individual donations, small grass roots fundraisers, and occasional corporate gifts and personal bequests.

We are very proud of Sue and her work with the Cystic Fibrosis Family Connection over the last 17 years.
