Lending a Helping Hand

Rochester AmeriCorps members have been helping out the community not just at their placements within RCSD, but at other events throughout Rochester.

Last Tuesday members participated in Project Homeless Connect at the Blue Cross Arena. The day was spent directing the over 650 guests around the arena to obtain critical services such as health care, legal advice, employment, shelter and food. Over 60 vendors turned out for the 4th annual event, making successful connections between providers and those in need.

Members also spread their enthusiasm out in nature on Saturday, Oct 25th for Make a Difference Day by helping to clean up Mt. Hope Cemetery. After a welcome by Jeffrey Simmons from Mt. Hope Cemetery and receiving a brief history of the cemetery by Dennis Carr from Friends of Mt. Hope, Jermayne Myers of the Mayor’s office offered members a certificate of appreciation for the outstanding effort AmeriCorps provides while serving in the community. The rest of the day was spent raking leaves and beautifying the historic cemetery to be enjoyed by everyone in the community.
