Another Great Year for MCC at the Puerto Rican Festival

For the third consecutive year (and with much enthusiasm), Monroe Community College had an information booth at the Rochester Puerto Rican festival.  This festival is a major cultural event for the Latino community in Rochester and upstate New York.  MCC staff, students, and alumni volunteered to staff the booth July 20-22, and assisted 275 visitors (a 65% increase from last year).  Most questions were regarding college admission/re-admission and financial aid.  Our grade by grade “College Readiness” materials provided a valuable walk-away piece for students and parents.  MCC pennants with college information in both Spanish and English were once again created for the festival and offered as giveaways.

The following volunteers staffed the booth:

Dr. Emeterio Otero – DCC Executive Dean
Karen Shaw – MCC Foundation
Julie Slate – Admissions
Jaime Smith – Office of Student Life and Leadership Development
Joan Moorehead – Admissions
Jose Roman – Public Safety
Margarita Ortiz – Honors Institute
Melissa Santiago – Financial Aid
Marisol Galarza-Ruiz – World Languages and Cultures
Marisol Reyes – EOP
Antonia Custodio – DCC Executive Dean's Office
Kathy Baxter – Career and Transfer Center
