Extra Instruction On-Demand

Trigonometry students are getting a little extra help in Prof. Jackie Donofrio’s course this fall.  The Mathematics Department faculty member used Instructional Development Stipend funds to purchase the software products necessary to create original instructional videos for her online Introduction to Trigonometry course. The videos feature animated illustrations of course concepts and processes, and step-by-step problem solving, with Prof. Donofrio’s verbal explanations accompanying each step.  The student can access this additional instruction at the point he or she needs it. “The goal is to enhance student learning by providing an additional visual and auditory instructional resource for online students,” she explained.  These videos have currently been incorporated as links into her course, and she also plans to burn CDs and make them available to her students.  “Next, I plan to create videos for my online Calculus I course,” she said.

Instructional Development Stipends are made available by the Office of Curriculum and Program Development each summer to sponsor instructional innovation.
