World Premiere of Passagio Protetto: Safe Passage

On Sunday, September 17 at 4:00 pm at the Nazareth College Arts Center Callahan Theatre, Casa Italiana will be hosting the world premiere of Antonio Rossi and Andrea Ceccomori’s  Passagio Protetto: Safe Passage—a symphonic work in twelve movements which serves as a musical tribute to Italian heroism during the Holocaust.

The horrors of World War II were not limited to Germany. Italy faced the violence and injustice of the Nazi regime. But thousands of Italian Jews found safety with friends, neighbors, and even strangers, who defied Nazi attempts to eliminate all Jews from their country. This moving and epic is commemorated in the world premiere of a symphonic work in twelve movements. Passaggio Protetto: Safe Passage incorporates orchestra and chorus in a splendid evocation of evil and heroism. Rochester resident Frank P. Oliveri, a researcher and scholar on the role of Italians during the Holocaust, commissioned the music. Maestro Raffaele Ponti, prize-winner at the Mario Gusella International Conductors Competition in Pescara, Italy, will be the conductor and musical director.

Tickets are being sold to adults for $35 and to students for $15. As one of the sponsors of this event, MCC’s Holocaust Genocide Studies Project encourages faculty, staff, and students to attend. For more information you may call 389-2468.
