Scholarship Opportunities Offered through the Mathematics Department


The MCC Mathematics Department offers several different scholarships each year and is currently accepting the applications for any of the following scholarship opportunities:

The Robert A. Fratangelo Memorial Scholarship https://www.monroecc.edu/depts/math/scholarships.htm#raf#raf

The Stuart R. Porter and Joyce R. Porter Endowed Scholarship https://www.monroecc.edu/depts/math/scholarships.htm#porter#porter

The Jan Z. Wiranowski Endowed Scholarship https://www.monroecc.edu/depts/math/scholarships.htm#jzw#jzw

Although individual scholarship requirements vary, student may qualify for at least one scholarship if he/she:
* is a current student at MCC
* has completed at least 24 credit hours at MCC
* has completed math courses above MTH 160 or Calculus 1
* has a GPA of 2.7 or higher (with a math GPA of 3.0 or higher)
* plans to major in mathematics or a math-related field


The Renaissance Scholarship Endowed by Jan Wiranowski
The criteria for this scholarship are broad and flexible. The scholarship is designed both for candidates with a traditional academic background, as well as for those with an out-of-ordinary academic trail.

Beyond the Formula Endowed Scholarship Student may qualify for this scholarship if he/she:

* is a current student at MCC
* has successfully completed at least 30 credit hours at MCC.
* has successfully completed at least 6 credit hours of mathematics including MTH 160 – Statistics I or the equivalent and has completed or be currently taking MTH 161 – Statistics II and must be currently enrolled at MCC.
* has a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher.
* has a Mathematics G.P.A. of 3.35 or higher.
* is planning on an academic major in statistics, statistics education or a field that would require further study and use of statistics.

There is also a new scholarship opportunity this year: Jan Z. Wiranowski Humanism of Hope Scholarship
Professor Jan Z. Wiranowski established this scholarship to express his care for students, his gratitude to MCC and to underscore his faith in human potential. Student may qualify for this scholarship if he/she:
* has successfully completed at least 24 credits and is currently enrolled as a full time student at MCC.
* has a minimum GPA of 3.5
* is a creative thinker, committed to human rights and interests– on a planetary (global) scale, within the context of the Universe of which we are part.
* has successfully completed application form, including essay.


Complete applications with essays and recommendations are due in the Mathematics Department Office no later than 4:00 p.m., Monday, March 29, 2010.
