Library Assistants’ Day
“The library is the temple of learning, and learning has liberated more people than all the wars in history.” -- Carl T. Rowan (American journalist)
Today is Library Assistants’ Day, one day within the week-long celebration of National Library Week. The contribution of support staff to the running of a library, however, is immeasurable; libraries could not function without the dedicated service of their library assistants.
The New York State Library Assistants’ Association (NYSLAA) is the second independent state-wide library assistants’ association in the United States, with roots dating to 1977. Today the association boasts close to 600 members. Through its efforts, a resolution was passed by the state legislature in 1996 proclaiming the first Library Assistants’ Day in New York state, and the legislature has passed a similar resolution every subsequent year.
Please take the time to recognize the work of our outstanding library assistants today.
