Join Professor Monshipour at Lincoln Center Fundraiser

On Saturday, October 11, 2008, 7:00-9:00 p.m. the Mehr Humanitarian Society will  hold a very special event at New York City’s Lincoln Center.

Shahin Monshipour of MCC’s Anthropology, History, Sociology and Political Science Department and a cross-cultural public relations consultant to the Mehr Humanitarian Society, along with a number of colleagues and students from the Rochester area will be attending a “Rumi” event together to learn about Sufism and participate in a great cultural program of Rumi’s poetry, music and dance. The Shams Ensemble will perform classic Persian music (santour, kamnche, flute, taar, violin, and daf)  and a Turkish Sufi group will perform Sama, “whirling dance”. The ensemble travels the world to spread Rumi’s message of peace and humanity.

Discounted tickets, transportation and a special chance to meet with some of the performers are arranged. Anyone interested would need to find their own accommodations. For more info on this opportunity, call Shahin Monshipour at 473-2945.
