Howard Konar Appointed to MCC Board of Trustees

Governor David A. Paterson on Wednesday announced the appointment of Howard Konar as a member of the Monroe Community College Board of Trustees.

“Monroe Community College is a critical component of downtown Rochester, and the members of the Board of Trustees need to have an appreciation for just how important the college is to the community. There is no question that Howard Konar understands this,” said Governor Paterson. “This is a critical time for MCC and its Board of Trustees, as they are faced with the challenge of finding a new president for the college, and maintaining the excellent and deserved reputation that the college has earned.”

Mr. Konar currently serves as chair of the Monroe Community College Foundation Executive Committee and is President of Konar Properties. He serves on the boards of the Monroe County Workforce Investment Board, the Jewish Community Federation of Rochester, Highland Hospital and the Jewish Home of Rochester. Additionally, he chairs Monroe Community College’s Holocaust Genocide Studies Advisory Committee, and was appointed by President George W. Bush to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council, the governing board of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. Mr. Konar received a B.A. from Cornell University and a J.D. from Fordham University.

“Howard Konar has a deep understanding of Monroe Community College,” said MCC Board Chair Rich Guon. “He has demonstrated his commitment through his 11 years on the board of the Monroe Community College Foundation and his deep involvement in MCC’s Holocaust Genocide Studies Project. His understanding and commitment, coupled with his community connections, make him a strong addition to the board. I look forward to working with him.

“Further, I thank Mike Nuccitelli for his nine years of service on the board. His insights and involvement have strengthened the college.”

Mr. Konar’s appointment is effective July 1, 2008. His term runs through June 30, 2015.
