Pete Otero to Retire

After 31 years of service to Monroe Community College, Dr. Emeterio “Pete” Otero has announced his intention to retire. Pete’s last day will be Friday, February 28, 2014.

Pete joined MCC in 1982 as assistant director of admissions. He was the first dean of students at the Damon City Campus and was one of the central architects of the campus’ “one-stop” student services operation.  Pete became DCC’s third executive dean in 2003 and leaves us as Damon’s longest-serving executive dean. In his 26 years at MCC, he has been a passionate supporter of students and one of the key advocates behind our successful proposal to relocate the downtown campus to State Street and Morrie Silver Way. Pete’s community contributions have been recognized by United Way of Greater Rochester, St. John Fisher College, Rochester Hispanic Business Association, Action for a Better Community and many other organizations.

Pete’s contributions to the college and community are meaningful and have made a true difference. We certainly will celebrate his accomplishments and service after the first of the year, and I know you join me in wishing him the very best as he moves forward to a new phase in his life.

We will begin the process of engaging the campus community in a search for this position in the new year.
