Fall Semester Greetings from the Web Re-Envision Team

Whether you’re in an office or a classroom, or are part of MCC online, the Web Re-Envision Project team wants to welcome everyone to the new school year – and to the countdown to our whole new .edu!

As you may recall, the redesign of the College website has been in the works for the last year or so, and the Web Re-Envision Project – including the new look and feel – was previewed in a series of Web Lunch & Learn presentations throughout 2014-15.

Progress continued this summer, and team members completed several critical stages in this long-term project intended to meet the needs of our core Web audience, prospective students:

* New text and image content was finished, checked and edited.

*  Our Web designs were programmed into working Web pages. Hundreds of pages were built, the text and image content was flowed in, and new features, such as searchable majors and programs pages, were installed.

* The new Web content management system, TYPO3, was instituted, and training sessions were begun.

* Testing with representative users (i.e. future students, parents and others) was held all along, and adjustments were made as needed throughout the process.

And of course, we’ve also been mindful of the needs of current students and employees, and all the content that the MCC community needs on a daily basis to be successful in what we do. The new www.monroecc.edu will include links/buttons on every single page reading “Current Students” and “Employees”; those links will lead to new custom landing pages containing necessary information and access for each of these groups.

These landing pages – and the content on them – have been guided by the Internal Web Management Committee, a group comprised of faculty and staff from across the College, and lead by Dr. Lloyd Holmes (Student Services), Dr. Jeff Bartkovich (Academic Services, ret.), David Lane (Technology Services) and Professor Michael Ofsowitz (Psychology). Their valuable leadership and input means that employees and students will be able to find – in one centralized location – what we need to be successful at MCC every day.

The first phase of our “whole new .edu” (including new homepage, Admissions and Tuition/Financial Aid pages, among others) is scheduled to launch the week of September 21.

Until then, background information on the Web Re-Envision Project is available at https://www.monroecc.edu/go/web .
