REA 101 Learning Community Interest Meeting

MCC's new reading course, REA 101: College Literacy and Reading, will be offered for the first time this fall.  Because the course focuses on critical and analytical reading skills across a wide range of disciplines, it lends itself particularly well to incorporation into any number of learning communities.  While indepemdent sections of REA 101 will survey the curriculum, any section paired with a course in the humanities, social sciences or natural sciences could focus specifically on the subject matter of its partner course, and thus give students the opportunity to explore the literature of that discipline more widely and deeply, and with more proficiency, than would otherwise be possible.  At the very least, students would have the additional support of a reading teacher as they work through the required readings.

If you are at all interested in pairing one of your courses with a section of REA 101, please attend the interest meeting that is planned for Monday, June 6 at 1 PM.  We will meet in 11-230, and simply chat informally about learning community ideas.  We will also be happy to answer any general questions about REA 101.  There will be food, so if you are hungry and only marginally interested, drop by anyway.
