HSMI to Host National Community College Program

MCC’s Homeland Security Management Institute is hosting a 3 day Train the Trainer Program (TTT) July 27-29 for Community Colleges and Community Leaders to teach the newly developed curriculum by MCC and four other lead colleges and adopted by the Department of Homeland Security.

HSMI Director John Perrone and Ron Snyder from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, taught and hosted the pilot program earlier this year.  The pilot was attended and evaluated by officials from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and approved for adoption.

The program entitled the “Community College Citizen Preparedness Program” was developed under a competitive grant process spearheaded by the five lead community colleges in conjunction with Partners for Environmental Education (PETE).

HSMI anticipates college attendees from other community colleges throughout the Northeast and as far away as the United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, North Dakota. Additionally, HSMI is promoting the program through our local community leaders, regional emergency managers and members of Citizen Corp.
