Attention at Applied Tech

Our Applied Technologies Center welcomed national and local public officials, legislators, industry leaders, and educators on Monday morning to announce a $15 million grant from the federal Department of Labor to the Finger Lakes Partnership. The grant is one of only 13 across the nation. The partnership is designed to help create a new economy and fill job vacancies as the nation moves away from manufacturing and toward a knowledge-based economy. Funds will support a wide breadth of initiatives to help existing workers transition into the jobs, to prepare students and emerging workers for the future economy, and to create new business opportunities.

Though the grant was announced several weeks ago, U.S. Deputy Secretary Stephen Law stopped by Rochester on Monday to meet with the partners and to formally give our area the funds. Major local media attended the event: the Democrat and Chronicle, 13 WHAM-TV, News 10 WHEC-TV, News 8 Now & Fox Rochester, R News and WXXI Public Radio. Attached please find the news clips from WXXI and News 10 that ran on their Web site.

Many thanks to everyone who helped set up the press conference!
