Effective for Fall 2015 New Prerequisite/Corequisite for ENG 101 or TRS 105

Effective Fall 2015 students who score between 71 and 80.9* on the Accuplacer Reading Test will be required to take REA 100, Reading and Thinking in the Disciplines, either before or concurrently with TRS 105 or ENG 101. This new requirement is designed to improve students' success in ENG 101 and other rigorous gateway courses.

REA 100, Reading and Thinking in the Disciplines, specifically addresses the academic literacy needs of targeted disciplines. Eleven sections of REA 100 are offered on the master schedule, and each one addresses a particular discipline:  English, STEM, psychology, social science/global studies, math, and criminal justice. Courses are available on both the Brighton and Damon campuses as well as through the SUNY Learning Network. Through this course students will develop requisite study-reading strategies, increase their self-efficacy, and benefit from the development of skills and mindsets that will enable them to become successful, flexible participants in a variety of academic discourses.  Students in REA 100 earn 3 general elective credits.

Watch for flyers and events created to share more information about REA 100 and the enhanced opportunity for success this course offers to our students.

*According to the College Board, scores below 85 on the Accuplacer Reading Test indicate below college-level reading ability
