State Budget: Add Your Voice to the Call for Support

In last week’s Message to the College Community, I updated you on the state’s budget negotiations.  As you will recall, the Assembly “one house” budget has restored $51 per full time equivalent (FTE) student to community college base aid; the Senate “one house” budget has restored $100.  Both figures fall short of the SUNY/CUNY request, which was $250 per FTE student—a number that would move us back to 2009 funding levels.

The Assembly and Senate higher education committees continue to conference on the final figure for community colleges, which means that there’s still time to encourage greater restoration of our base aid.  SUNY has provided
an online “call to action” letter to make it easy to voice support for community college funding.  You simply add your zip code and name, and it is sent automatically to your Assembly and Senate members.

I hope you will find a few moments to add your voice to the call for increasing investment in MCC and all of SUNY’s community colleges.
