Reminder: Register for the June 2018 Teaching & Learning Conference

What messages (intended or unintended, positive and negative) do we send students in our classrooms and offices? In what ways might such messages be improved to be more deliberately inclusive, supportive, and welcoming--especially in fields where many of our students have been and remain traditionally underrepresented?

Join us at the 2018 Teaching & Learning Conference to find out.

For this year's conference, thanks to the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education grant and the Economic Development and Innovative Workforce Services Division, we welcome representatives from the National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity (NAPE) who will present research-based strategies to improve communication between students and faculty, advisers, mentors, and employers by exploring unconscious bias.

Their nationally-recognized professional development workshop is called Micromessaging to Reach and Teach Every Student. As stated on NAPE's website, "This unique program provides participants with an awareness of the power of micromessages, which include looks, gestures, tone of voice, or the framing of feedback that subtly yet powerfully shape our culture, our classrooms, and the individuals within them."
