Congratulations! On behalf of the Interdisciplinary Programs division, English/Philosophy department, and the Office of Student Life & Leadership Development, we are pleased to announce that the winner of the 2013 Alan B. Shaw Memorial Essay Award is Tony DeMarco for his essay, The Art Of Companionship: How an Animal Changed My Life.” Second place goes to Brittany McCarthy for her essay, “Learning to Fight,” and third place to Kathleen Johnson, for “The Cat Who Taught Me to Read.” Special thanks to all who participated.
