Exhibit of Illuminated Manuscripts Explores the Legacy of Genocide

Opening today on the Brighton Campus: The Creative Arts Committee, in partnership with the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project, presents Beyond Genocide featuring the Illuminated Manuscripts of Amy Fagin. https://www.20thcenturyilluminations.com/

Beyond Genocide is a series of contemporary illuminated manuscripts that explore the legacy of genocide and mass annihilation around the globe. The exhibit is designed as a universally accessible visual arts experience for young adult and adult audiences.

The exhibit of 13 manuscripts will be open on Mondays from 2 to 4 pm through May 6 in the R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center Forum (3-130). Viewing of the exhibit is free and open to the public.

Amy Fagin, the author of Beyond Genocide, is an independent fine artist specializing in the traditional art of the illuminated manuscript. As part of the HGHRP’s annual Yom HaShoah Commemoration, Fagin will conduct a workshop on the manuscripts on Wednesday, May 4 at 2 pm and host a lecture on Thursday, May 5 at 1 pm the Forum. The workshop and lecture complement the exhibit and will augment learning and appreciation of the legacy of genocide as it has manifested around the world.

The illuminations below reflect genocides in Armenia and Afghanistan.
