Congratulations to Class of 2012: Tatyana Chiley

This week, we profile a few of MCC’s newest graduates. In celebration of the college’s 50th anniversary, we are spotlighting members of the class of 2012 who have followed in the footsteps of family members or inspired other family members to attend MCC to fulfill their dreams of a college education.

Tatyana Chiley of Hilton feels well-prepared to take the national nursing exam and begin her career as a registered nurse. Her enthusiasm has also influenced her younger sister Diane, an MCC freshman, to pursue a nursing degree at Monroe Community College.

“Many of my friends came to MCC and recommended their nursing program,” said Tatyana, a recipient of multiple scholarships and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. “I also received a lot of encouragement from my family. By my second semester, I fell in love with the program.”

Tatyana’s experience working as a patient care technician at Rochester General Hospital complemented her college education and exposed her to many areas of the hospital, including the emergency room. “The emergency room is very fast-paced. I liked it. There’s so much to remember. It really tests your skills.”

She has applied for nursing positions and has at least two interviews scheduled. She hopes to begin her career in an intensive care or “step down” unit where she will further build her skills. In the meantime, she is sharing her knowledge with her sister, who will enter MCC’s nursing program in the fall.

“In a health care field, you never stop learning,” said Tatyana. “Learning opens opportunities. I hope to earn my bachelor’s and, perhaps, other degrees so I can experience managing a unit. I definitely see myself doing that.”

Tatyana and her family came to the United States from Ukraine in 1996. She and Diane will travel to Russia later in June on a church-sponsored trip where they will help build a school and spend time with orphans.
