Children's Literature Conference

Dear Colleagues,

You have no doubt heard that MCC will host a children's literature conference on Saturday, March 19. This will be a great event! Please come!

"Off to See the Wizard: Quests for Memory and Culture in Children's Literature" will offer local and regional scholarship, community-building, and professional development.  Many of our colleagues will have speaking roles at the conference.  Barbara Lovenheim's talk is entitled "Cries and Whispers: Voices in Holocaust Picture Books."  Bill Dunning, Margaret Murphy, Laurie Ousley and Tony Vinci will introduce speakers and chair sessions.  Janet Glocker will welcome conference participants to MCC and Bob DeFelice will make closing remarks.  Emeritus professors Anne Cooney and Judy Hall, who started children's literature studies at MCC, will introduce Newbery award-winner Linda Sue Park.

In addition to nationally known speakers Roni Natov and Linda Sue Park, the conference will include the University of Rochester's Russell Peck, who will speak about "Children’s Literature and the Third Reich" and the Strong Museum's director of research, Jon-Paul Dyson, who will bring along a model of the Museum's new children's literature wing. You can find all of the details and the registration form by clicking on the link that has been placed on the English/Philosophy Department website.

You do need to register for the conference (registration form available on the Web site), but the $35 fee, which includes a continental breakfast, lunch and several refreshment breaks, will be covered for the first 20 people who respond!

Please submit your registration form, or any questions to Linda Ingraham at <mailto:lingraham@monroecc.edu> or  292-3321. Her office is located in room 5-336.

Please come and support us!  We'll have a wonderful time!
