Governor Paterson Directs Flags to be Flown at Half-staff on Friday, October 30, 2009

Governor David A. Paterson has directed that flags on New York State government buildings be flown at half-staff on Friday, October 30, in honor of a Marine who died in a helicopter crash in Helmand Province, Afghanistan on October 26.

Captain Eric A. Jones from Westchester was assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Camp Pendleton, California.

“I extend the sympathy of all New Yorkers at this difficult time to the family, friends and comrades-in-arms of Captain Jones,” Governor Paterson said. “This Marine was a valued son of the Empire State serving our nation far from home. We will never forget his sacrifice on behalf of all Americans.”

Governor Paterson has directed the flags on all State buildings to be lowered to half-staff in tribute to the State’s service members who are killed in action or die in a combat zone.
