Appointment of EOP Director


I am pleased to announce the appointment of Brenda A. Smith to the position of Director of the Educational Opportunity Program effective September 1, 2003. 

Ms. Smith has worked in higher education for 15 years with her focus being on further developing the talent of the disadvantaged.  Since 1992, she served as Coordinator of Special Programs/Educational Opportunity Program at Finger Lakes Community College.  She was responsible for the recruitment and counseling of EOP students, and she ensured the EOP program was in compliance with SUNY criteria for the administration of the program.  She developed and provided academic support and personal development opportunities for EOP students, coordinated services, supervised professional and student support staff, and prepared annual administrative EOP reports.

From 1988 to 1992, Ms. Smith was employed as a Counselor in the Educational Opportunity Program at Finger Lakes Community College, providing academic, financial, career and personal counseling to EOP students and providing outreach efforts for those students.

She served on numerous college committees during her tenure at FLCC and was the recipient of many awards, including the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service, 2003; the Student Choice Award, 2002; and the Professional Achievement Award, 2000.
