Legendary Love

Please join MCC’s Celtic Society today in 12-129 for a FREE screening of the 2006 film, TRISTAN & ISOLDE.

TRISTAN & ISOLDE retells the legend of Irish Princess Isolde (Sophie Myles) and Cornish knight, Tristan (James Franco), who are torn between their love for each other and their loyalty to King Marke of Cornwall (Rufus Sewell). Come see for yourself why this legendary love story, which has been told and retold throughout the centuries, continues to capture the contemporary imagination.

Throughout the spring semester, you can catch screenings and discussions of a number of Celtic-related films (each is free, is open to the community, begins at 6 p.m., and takes place in 12-129):

13 March, FAR AND AWAY: Featuring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, FAR AND AWAY tells the story of Irish immigrants attempting to make a new life in America.

10 April, THE DECOY BRIDE: "When the world's media descend on the remote Scottish island where a Hollywood actress is attempting to get married, a local girl is hired as a decoy bride to put the paparazzi off the scent" (IMDB). Stars David Tennant and Kelly Macdonald.

8 May, GANGS OF NEW YORK: Set in Civil War-era New York City, GANGS OF NEW YORK depicts the struggle of recently immigrated Irish against Nativist forces led by Bill "The Butcher" Cutting (played by Oscar-award winner, Daniel Day-Lewis).

Celtic Society’s purpose is to raise awareness of the Celtic Nations (Brittany, Cornwall, Galicia, Ireland, Isle of Man, Scotland, Wales) and diaspora. It aims to share and celebrate Celtic culture with the college community. Celtic Society welcomes all students, faculty, and employees, regardless of their ethnic backgrounds.
