Evans, Kennedy Help Students Learn About Breast Cancer

Students from Damon City and Brighton campuses who take the Disease Prevention and Healthy Lifestyles course with Dorothy Evans, adjunct in the Health and Physical Education Department (also facilities coordinator for Damon City Campus), were treated to an awesome field trip last week.

The students attended the 12th Annual Highland Hospital Breast Cancer Education Luncheon – learning first-hand about preventing and managing breast cancer. Guest speaker and renowned singer Patti Labelle gave a heartfelt message of hope, faith and perseverance in the face of life’s challenges. Dorothy described Labelle’s impromptu a cappella rendition of the Lord’s Prayer as an “unforgettable treat.”

Thanks to a sponsorship from Pat Kennedy, director of Student Support Services Program, which made the trip possible, students were among the 1,300 guests that attended the event at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.  The students thought the event was both educational and entertaining.
