Summertime and the Livin' Isn't Easy if You are Me

There are a lot of fallacies that I have to deal with once May arrives.

One is that I will soon be ‘off for the summer’. This simply is not true as I have to work all summer. Every time someone wishes me a good summer vacation it is just like rubbing salt in my wounds, so please cease and desist immediately.

Another is that I don’t have any work to do now that the semester is over. Also not true. I have all these darn grades to get processed and just when the spring grades slow down one of our 100 summer sessions is ending and I have to process those grades. And there are the fall room assignments that I work on feverishly only to have to change them all the last week in August. And there are the summer classroom assignments.

Fallacy number three is that summer room assignments must be easy because there aren’t as many courses offered. That is true but have you looked at WHEN they are offered? They all overlap in dates and times like a huge jigsaw puzzle where each piece has an extra appendage. And we have to crowd in more special events and summer camps and programs than is humanly possible in three months.

So what is my point? There are three:

Feel sorry for me
Be sure to check you summer classroom assignments before classes start. Empty classrooms are NOT a dime a dozen and we are as packed in the summer as we are in the fall with lots of events, camps, programs and sessions that are not neatly phased for room assignment convenience.

Feel sorry for me.
