Teaching & Creativity Center Faculty Inquiry Groups, 2014-15

The Teaching & Creativity Center is excited to add two new Faculty Inquiry Groups to our roster for 2014-15.  These groups bring together faculty members with shared interests for a series of meetings designed to strengthen our classroom practice.  For more information or to express interest in joining, please contact the facilitator for each group.

1. Civic Education and Engagement (facilitated by Verdis Robinson)

This FIG will ponder civic learning and the integration of democracy and civic responsibility in the curriculum.  The FIG will also discuss national initiatives such as The Democracy Commitment, the American Democracy Project, Deliberative Democracy, and the National Issues Forums as possible means to an end.  Additionally, the FIG will explore pedagogies and strategies of creating global student citizens. This FIG will meet at Brighton and DCC:

Brighton: all meetings are 12-1pm in the Brighton TCC (12-201) -- Oct. 24, Nov. 7, Nov. 21, Dec. 5

DCC: all meetings are 12-1pm in the DCC TCC (5091) -- Oct. 20, Nov. 5, Nov. 19, Dec. 3

2.  Learning Communities (facilitated by Jon Iuzzini)

This group will explore best practices for teaching learning communities (pairs of linked courses with integrated projects).  We will assist faculty members in finding colleagues to partner with, and we will meet regularly to work on integrated course design so that these learning communities can be offered in spring 2015 and/or fall 2015.

This FIG will meet at Brighton and DCC.  The schedule of dates and times will be set according to the availabilities of the group members.  Please contact Jon Iuzzini by October 23 to join.
